How to use a windshield removal kit

Sometimes it’s difficult with little space between the dashboard and the glass windshield to fit extraction tools. Windshield removal kits are designed to make removing windshields safer and reduce the chances of breaking glass. Normally, a windshield removal kit consists of high-strength braided wire, a tool punch or hook to feed the wire through the glass and two T-handles with Allen screws and a wrench or similar device to secure them.

  2. Make sure the vehicle is parked with the emergency brake and you have plenty of light.
  3. Place a small towel or cloth on the windshield and insert the removal tool trim below the rim covering the edge of the windscreen. The fabric prevents the tool scratching the glass as you work.

  6. Insert the wire into the slot in the end of the wire hook tool is sufficient for surpassing one side that you can grab it and bend the wire in the center (which is in the slot).
  7. Work from the outside of the vehicle and force the wire between the windshield and the frame is attached to.
  8. Remove the hook tool, leaving the wire in place between the windshield and the frame.
  9. Move the vehicle and pull half the length of the cable through.
  10. Attach the handles T-handle at each end of the wire and push the attachment post T-handle on the opposite end of the lever to open.
  11. Push the cable end on the pole attachment and feed in the grip hole. Push the fixing post again in the T-handle so you cannot draw.
  12. Grab a handle and have your helper grab the other. Working with someone inside the vehicle and one outside the vehicle and pull the thread along the perimeter of the windscreen to separate the frame and glue.
  13. Lift the windshield when separated and out of the vehicle. If the windshield is broken, be careful when lifting, as it can break. Put it in a place where not fall or be accidentally bumped or broken.

Tips & Warnings

Once all material butyl, push the top center of the windshield is cut from inside the car to remove.
  • Wear gloves and eye protection when removing a windshield. The stranded wire can cut hands and glass can be broken at any time.
