Classic auto glass replacement is the same as the modern replacement auto glass, as these cars have some of the basic components of modern cars. The only challenge for classic auto glass replacement is that you must find a distributor body shop that sells specialty glass for your specific car and model. Replacement of glass from side to side in a vintage pattern can be tricky, but with a few tools you can do it without having to visit a body shop.
Explanation
- Wear safety glasses and utility gloves for protection against the dangers of glass. Apply canvas inside the vehicle to cover the exposed upholstery.
- Remove the screws from the door panel with a Phillips screwdriver. Slide a spatula or a cutting tool under the edge of the panel to lift the panel and remove the four corner fasteners.
- Peel the black strip that holds the waterproofing shield inside the panel and remove the shield door carefully. Set aside.
- If the glass is still intact, break the glass with a hammer from inside the vehicle; remove any pieces of broken glass from inside the panel and vacuum small glass fragments with a vacuum cleaner.
- If necessary, use an adjustable wrench to remove the screw that holds the handle in the threshold window. Place the new glass within the window regulator bracket until you cannot push down further. Use adjustable wrench to put back to the window crank screw nut in place.
- Reapply strip weather ability back along the window frame. Apply a thin bead of urethane sealant strip on weather ability to adhere to the panel of the car window safely.
- Replace all components of the door panel that has been previously deleted. Re-clamp the waterproofing shield in place before reinstalling the door panel.
- Secure the panel in place by reapplying the four fasteners in the slots along the edge of the panel.
